I have solved this problem, it should still be an issue with the mpi compiler selection.

for coawst issues, specific to compiling or running multiple models together, it is best to post an issue here: https://github.com/DOI-USGS/COAWST/issues your issue is that you selected a compiler for openmp and mpi. When I run ./build_roms.sh, I get the 'romsS' file instead of 'romsM'. What's the difference between the two? Does it make a difference to the results?
