Are you accounting for porosity of the sediment bed? If you work in volumetric units, you need to account for porosity of the sediment bed. I recently used riverplume2 for a test case in a class. And, yes, the salinity distribution evolves to look like that. I think to improve it you need to change the downstream open boundary condition for salinity.

HI The layers were all initially 0.5 cm thick, and newlayer_thick is also 0.5 cm thick in this testcase. Is anyone working on implementing shrink-wrapping in ROMS so that calculations are not performed at land cells? We have a model grid that has 90,000 grid points, but only 20,000 are water. It is an estuarine environment that has some long tidal channels.
