How is the cohesive sediment treated in the latest ROMS?

#1 Unread post by leon »

Dear all,
How is the cohesive sediment treated in the latest ROMS? Is the cohesive sediment and non-cohensive sediment treated the same way? I have read Warner's several articles. The cohesive and non-cohensive sediment is treated the same. Actually, the cohesive and non-cohesive sediment is really different. How to improve the model in order to get more real simulation? Any suggestion or references?

There is an option to run a cohesive sediment model that is different from the non-cohesive model described in Warner's papers. Chris Sherwood (USGS) has been the main developer of this module, and he would know (better than me) the current state of the module. The cohesive model follows the model described in Sanford's (2008) Computers and Geosciences paper. It allows for the critical shear stress of cohesive sediment classes to change with depth in the bed, and with time to simulate consolidation and swelling processes.
