Hi,
For my experience, if you defined bulk_fluxes in your cppdefs, you should use downward solar radiation.
If not, you should use the net one.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Can ROMS read in albedo field from external files?
I tested the ALBEDO_FILE.
It just works as the forcing files, which need the time variable.
To use a temporal invariant field, just provide the albedo at starttime and endtime (2 time index). I guess ROMS will do a linear interpolation to the albedo value.

Re: Can ROMS read in albedo field from external files?
Thanks again! I am using the reflectance values from MODIS MYD09A1, and mapping them to my model grid. I am modelling the Yellow Sea with Solar radiation from ERA-interim(0.75 degree resolution). Coastal region is always being over heated, I was suggested to look into the albedo distribution as the ...

Re: Can ROMS read in albedo field from external files?
Sorry Kate, I think i still need you help on how to use ALBEDO_FILE.
Should I provide it as a forcing file? Is it able to use a constant albedo field or the file need to be like the forcing files with time index?
Thanks a lot!

Can ROMS read in albedo field from external files?
Hello,
I wonder if I can map albedo values (from MODIS) to ROMS grid, is there a way to read in the albedo value when the model runs?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, I am implementing a high resolution model(1km horizontally) with 40 vertical levels in the Yellowsea and Bohai sea. The model was developed by somebody else in the beginning and I am trying to optimize and validate the model. As I am kind of new to ocean modelling, so I need to seek advice on ...

Re: Is there a balance between SSH and currents?
Thanks for your rely there! I will try to have a look at the ssh at the open boundary. This has been a problem for me for a long time. One of my supervisor suggested that the ADCP may have some uncertainty in compass so it might be bad to compare the u and v velocity, another way is to compare the ...

Hi, I am running a simulation in the Yellow Sea and Bohai sea. The model has an open boundary at the south end. The grid has been rotated so we have this open boundary at the east. figure_1.png The horizontal resolution is 1km with 40 vertical layers. And we applied tidal forcing at the open ...

error message running pyroms examples(yellow sea)
Hi, I think I compiled pyroms correctly, as I import all three modules in ipython, no error messages come out. But when I trying to run the Yellow Sea examples(make_YELLOW_grd_v1.py), the error message showed and I am not quite sure what happened. Can anyone give some advice? Thanks a lot! Traceback ...

Re: error message when running build.bash for upwelling
Hi Connor, If you are using the gfortran compiler, can you try to edit the Darwin-gfortran.mk under "~/yourdirectory/trunk/Compilers/" at line 51(maybe not exactly) to be: LIBS := -L$(NETCDF_LIBDIR) -lnetcdf -lnetcdff instead of LIBS := -L$(NETCDF_LIBDIR) -lnetcdf I am not sure this will work but ...

You show us the error but not the link command. Perhaps there's something useful on the wiki ? Hi kate, I followed the instruction from the url and modified the link lib thing in the /Compilers/Darwin-gfortran.mk and the script is down here. libncar = -lncarg -lncarg_gks -lncarg_c -lXpm -lX11 ...

Hello, After I luckily build the ROMS build.bash, I tried to plot the output with the plotting package, this time I also encounter a problem. Still my machine is a mac mini with Mavericks 10.9.4, with gcc 4.8.2 obtained from the macports, and I installed the NCL 6.2.0. After I run the makefile, the ...

My husband asks where your gfortran came from. Was it from Macports or some other source? Also, can you provide the output of the NetCDF-fortran configure step and its Makefile? There's a lot that can go wrong on a Mac. Thanks for the reply, Kate. My gfortran comes from the Macports with gcc48 I ...
