Separating horizontal XI-advection term for tracer diagnostics in the source code (in step3d_t.F)
Hi all, There is a horizontal XI-advection variable in the DIAGNOSTIC output file, i.e temp_xadv (d(u*T)/dx = u dT/dx+T du/dx).Since the two properties (u dT/dx and T du/dx) of the tracer concentration are both valuable, the advective form of tracer concentration equation is changed into a ...

Re: Negative salinity during two way nesting
Hi, I was wondering if you solved your two way nesting problem? I now get an error using the two way nesting simulation, but I don't know what went wrong. One-way nesting can work, but it blowing up quickly. I posted a post with detailed configuration and results: https://www.myroms.org/forum ...

Re: BLOWING UP during nesting
Dear Dr. Wilkin: According to your suggestion, I modified the build script file and *.in file of the new version, and recompiled and ran the Two-way nesting examples. The result is the following error: TIME-STEP YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss.ss KINETIC_ENRG POTEN_ENRG TOTAL_ENRG NET_VOLUME Grid C => (i,j,k ...

Two-way nested simulation error
Hi, Recently I tried nesting simulation in ROMS and found Two_Way nesting reported errors. The result is the following error: TIME-STEP YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss.ss KINETIC_ENRG POTEN_ENRG TOTAL_ENRG NET_VOLUME Grid C => (i,j,k) Cu Cv Cw Max Speed 0 2000-01-02 00:00:00.00 1.314949E-03 2.184196E+04 2 ...

Re: BLOWING UP during nesting
I looked through your output file and found that ROMS did not read the boundary conditions. There was no such problem in the old version of ROMS. I would like to ask if anyone has encountered this problem.

How to restart the IS4DVAR date assimilation system?
I can successfully run the primal form of incremental, strong constraint, 4-Dimensional Variational (4D-Var) data assimilation algorithm in the California Current System, 1/3 degree resolution, application (WC13). Now I have a question for you: If I complete the assimilation for 7 days, the model ...

Initial gradient norm, Gnorm = NaN
Hi, everyone! When I run my IS4D-Var model, I got the error at the first inner loop. The log file shows: …… <<<< Descent Algorithm >>>> (001,000): Initial gradient norm, Gnorm = NaN …… TLM: GET_STATE - Read state initial conditions, t = 1 00:00:00 (Grid 01, File: wc13_itl.nc, Rec=0001, Index=1) - fre ...

Re: Can't run my IS4D-Var case Gnorm = NaN
Hi, I wonder if you have solved this problem? Now I have the similar error like you in my IS4D-Var run, my initial gradient norm (Gnorm) is NaN. <<<< Descent Algorithm >>>> (001,000): Initial gradient norm, Gnorm = NaN …… TLM: GET_STATE - Read state initial conditions, t = 1 00:00:00 (Grid 01, File: ...

The surface net heat flux and solar shortwave radiation
Dear all, I don’t know whether the surface forces——surface net heat flux and solar shortwave radiation ——needs to be input at the same time. If they input at the same time, they will not repeat calculate? Surface net heat flux includes net shortwave radiation flux, net long wave radiation, latent hea ...

Re: Changing the range would blow up
I try to reduce the timestep from dt=400 to dt=200,the currnt velocity is still more than 2.5 meter per second on the fifth day. In addition, I try to increase horizontal diffusion and viscosity, but it still doesn't work.
Thank you in advance!

Changing the range would blow up
Hello, I am trying to simulate the south China sea current, at the first stage I choose the range : -10—27N,99—140E, and it can run normally. However, when I change the range , -10—27N,99—150E,it blow up after 187 days. Then I try to replace the NCEP wind field with QSCAT, dramatically it still blow ...
