Some NCEI Ocean NOMADS product (https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/) services are going to be decommissioned on May 15, 2025. The archived data will remain available, but no new data will be added.
Description of change:
New updates of Navy operational ocean model fields will be discontinued. This includes regional NCOM and global HYCOM. Users are directed to the server maintained by National Weather Service at https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/n ... ncom/prod/ for access to regional NCOM, and to the HYCOM Consortium at https://www.hycom.org/ for global HYCOM.
If this will impact your modeling activities, you are urged to describe these in email to Dr. Breanna Vanderplow (Ocean Prediction Coordinator for U.S. IOOS) at breanna.vanderplow@noaa.gov.
The Notice of Change for NOMADS and other services can be found here: https://www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docum ... of-changes.
Aside from Navy Models in Ocean NOMADS, other data sets I see being impacted include, estuarine bathymetry, sediment thickness data base, coastline extractor, NOAA marine environmental data base (C-MAN stations), global ocean currents database, and many more. Some of these notices indicate a termination date, whereas others do not. I have no information on their on-going status.
