USF Research Associates (post-doctoral) (12566 & 12567)
The College of Marine Science, University of South Florida, seeks two Research Associates (post-doctoral) (#12566 & #12567) in coastal ocean circulation modeling and analyses. Successful candidates will engage in a coordinated program of observations and models toward understanding and forecasting the circulation of the west Florida continental shelf and the interactions that link the estuarine, coastal, and deep-ocean environments, plus opportunity for coupled, physical/biological model collaboration. Successful candidates for either position will work as part of a coordinated team.
Minimum qualifications: PhD in Physical Oceanography (or related field) with a firm grounding in GFD and excellent written and oral communication skills.
(ABDs-all but dissertations-accepted.)
Preference for 12566 will be given to candidates experienced with sigma or hybrid coordinate models and the blending of observations with models though data assimilation. For instance we presently apply ROMS nested in HYCOM for WFS nowcast/forecasts and we also applying FVCOM for higher resolution shelf/estuary studies. Preference for 12567 will be given to candidates experienced with at sea data collection from a variety of platforms (moorings, floats, gliders, HF-radar) and with modern analyses techniques including data assimilation.
These positions are with the CMS-USF Ocean Circulation Group in St. Petersburg, FL (see http://ocgweb.marine.usf.edu and http://comps.marine.usf.edu for programmatic examples). Initial appointment is for 1.5 years, with extensions desirable based on performance and funding availability.
Annualized Salary is negotiable. The positions are available immediately, and the close date for the receipt of applications is 10/18/07.
