We are advertising for a Postdoctoral Associate in Physical Oceanography & Ocean Modeling
The project is to work on elements of the design, development and evaluation of a prototype East Coast Community Ocean Forecast System (ECCOFS) that implements data-assimilation of real-time observations in a ROMS model of the western North Atlantic Ocean and U.S. coastal and shelf waters. We foresee ECCOFS as a future complement to NOAA's operational West Coast model (WCOFS), but tailored to the dynamics and user interests of the eastern seaboard setting.
Using ROMS 4D-Var as the underlying assimilation approach, the ECCOFS prototype will also utilize elements of the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA) Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI), and assimilate real-time observations from NOAA and NASA satellites and regional Coastal Ocean Observing Systems of U.S. IOOS. The ECCOFS design will anticipate eventual transition to operations at NCEP.
The postdoc will work with John Wilkin and members of the Rutgers Ocean Modeling Group, and ECCOFS co-investigators Andrew Moore and Ruoying He. Ideally, we are interested in candidates with some experience with ROMS but that is not essential. Any experience in applied coastal ocean modeling, data assimilation, and/or knowledge of the ocean dynamics of the U.S. eastern seaboard and Intra Americas Sea would be advantageous to the ECCFOS development team.
The position is full-time with benefits, and available for one year to be renewed for a second year based on performance.
