Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA
The Oceanography Department at the Naval Postgraduate School invites applications for the positions of research professor and postdoctoral researcher from individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional record of scholarship in any aspect of physical oceanography. The research professoriate appointment could be at the level of research assistant, associate, or full professor.
The Oceanography (OC) Department is part of the Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. We are seeking a colleague to join our vibrant OC Department, which has a long history of excellence in physical oceanography, ocean acoustics, high latitude and global ocean dynamics, ocean / sea ice analysis and prediction, ocean waves and turbulence, and nearshore processes. The OC Department has strong research infrastructure, such as facilities and vessels located in close proximity to the Monterey Bay, an experienced group of technical staff, access to on-campus and DOD high performance computational (HPC) resources, and a motivated student body. The OC department promotes basic and applied research as well as interdisciplinary activities, and encourages research collaborations with industry, academia, and ocean science institutions located around the bay, and around the world.
Research professor position currently assumes that the salary of the candidate will be generated from reimbursable research. However, opportunities exist within the department to join in the ongoing research projects. In future we anticipate department to grow and tenure-track teaching appointments will also become available. Research faculty are encouraged and eligible to apply for such teaching positons. Successful performance at the post-doctoral level may provide grounds for the promotion to the research professor level.
