A full-time postdoctoral position is available jointly at the European Institute of Marine Sciences (IUEM) and the French Research Institute for Exploration of the Sea (IFREMER) in Brest, France, under the supervision of Dr. Jeroen Molemaker. The position is funded by the LabexMer Chair in fine scale ocean dynamics.
The research goals of the project are to investigate the dynamics of submesoscale oceanic flows. The research within the project will be at the the forefront of ocean modeling and will focus on geostrophic dynamics and its implications for diapycnal mixing, vertical exchanges in the surface layer, and energy budgets. The tools that will be used are numerical ocean models, primarily the Region Ocean Modeling System, ROMS. An essential part of the project is to extend the model functionality specifically for the modeling of small oceanic scales. This will include the implementation in the model of numerical algorithms within an MPI based parallel environment. There may be opportunity to spend a period of time doing research at UCLA in Los Angeles.
To apply, please send a letter of motivation, detailed CV including publication list, and contact information for 2 references to contact-labexmer@univ-brest.fr
