thickness of levels

#1 Unread post by nageswararao »

Hi all,
In ROMS we will give the no. of levels,N. Are all the layers are of equal thickness? If not so is there any option to get layers of different thicknesses. Please reply me.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see the answer in here, but it was in the SCRUM manual. ;)

An authentic sigma coordinate is linear, with each vertical dz being the same. We are using a stretched vertical grid with uniform spacing in shallow water, non-uniform in deep water. The parameters to change it are theta_s and theta_b, tcline to some extent. Hernan had a matlab script for displaying the vertical grid in a cross-section, but I don't remember what it's called. However, in the ROMS output, there is vertical grid information in the initialization section. Bernard Barnier came up with theta_s=5.0, theta_b=0.4 and I haven't used anything else since for realistic domains. Try it and see what you think.
