change number of layes (N)

Dear
i have made grid with 32 layers and then initial, climatology, river and other files have been created base on it in 32 layers. I want to know is there any way to change those files form 32 layer to less layers with out needing to make other gird. For example change all files from 32 layers to 16 layes?

The horizontal grid file can stay the same. You do need to generate new initial, boundary, climatology, etc. files, though.
