POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR
The Department of Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar to develop and maintain a 30 year retrospective analysis of the California Current system using the ROMS 4-dimensional variational (4D-Var) data assimilation system. The scientific aim of the project is to develop a better understanding the dynamics of the California Current circulation and variability during the last three decades. The successful candidate will join a growing ocean data assimilation group at UCSC and a research team engaged in related modeling, field, and laboratory activities.
SALARY: $50,628 - $55,464 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent in physical oceanography or related field; the ability to work well independently and as part of a team; and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in physical ocean modeling and ocean data assimilation; an interest in the dynamical processes that control the California Current system; and motivated to drive new developments in data assimilation.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: One year, with the possibility of extension contingent on availability of funding and positive performance review.
