Postdoctoral Research Associate, Ocean Data Assimilation, University of Colorado.
Applicants are invited for a post-doctoral position in the Program of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (PAOS), at the University of Colorado in Boulder to work on several ocean data assimilation problems. One project is concerned with data assimilation using a reduced-order Kalman Filter in support of ENSO prediction using coupled atmosphere-ocean models. A second project involves data assimilation in the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) for the Intra-Americas Sea using variational methods. A goal of this research is the demonstration of ocean forecast capabilities, conducted in real time at sea (i.e. aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Explorer of the Seas or comparable vessel). A third project involves the application of adjoint methods and data assimilation to explore the predictability of the circulation of the Monterey Bay. The position is available in the first instance for 2 years with the possibility of an extension. Applicants should send a brief letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references with contact information to Prof. Andrew Moore, PAOS, University of Colorado, Campus Box 311, Boulder, CO 80309-0311 (andy@bondi.colorado.edu).
