Gentlemen,
I have a scenario in which roms takes 12 hours to run five days.
The machine with a Dell two quad-core processors - Xeon X5560 - 2.80GHz - (16cores) and 16GB RAM.
What could I do to decrease this time in terms of machine?
1) A processor with a clock higher?
2) Or increase the number of nodes?

Absolutely increase the number of nodes and absolutely stay away from Dell....Dell ... Xeon X5560 - 2.80GHz .... What should I do ...

Your machine is already too expensive and any further increase of clock speed would bring only insignificant gain in performance, well beyond the point of diminishing return.
How did you end up with 16GB of memory?................ and 16GB RAM.
Something is VERY VERY VERY wrong here: 5500-series Xeons are tri-channel memory architectures [see diagrams on page 5 and pay attention to memory], so you memory must be divisible by 3, that is 12GB (most likely, 6 modules, 2GB each installed in sets of 3 for each CPU), or 24GB. I doubt that anyone in ROMS community would ever need so much memory.
Open your box, inspect that memory is evenly spread symmetrically across all the slots, and REMOVE the two excessive DIMMs which break the symmetry: that would make you machine faster.
