The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) is seeking a post-doctoral Assistant Research Scientist to work with Dr. Ming Li on a NSF-funded project examining the impacts of climate variability and change on estuaries and coastal oceans. With Chesapeake and Delaware Bay as study sites, the overall objective of this project is to quantify interannual variability of estuarine circulation and stratification, to explain the physical mechanisms responsible for such variability, and provide an assessment of the likely changes in response to future climate change. The postdoc will have an opportunity to collaborate with climate scientist Dr. Ray Najjar at Penn State University and interact with a group of interdisciplinary researchers at HPL who are investigating the effects of climate change/variability on plankton productivity and hypoxia in coastal oceans.
A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required. Experience in numerical modeling is preferred. For more information about Horn Point Laboratory and the project principle investigators, please see these websites: http://www.hpl.umces.edu, http://www.hpl.umces.edu/~mingli and http://www.met.psu.edu/people/rgn1.
