University of Hawaii, School of Ocean and Earth Science Technology (SOEST), Postdoctoral Scholar.
SOEST at the University of Hawai`i in Manoa seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to explore and research numerical modeling of the Hawaiian islands with a focus on data assimilation and ocean state prediction. Utilizing nested assimilated models with many types of observations and field campaigns, we will explore the physical processes that influence the small-scale, nearshore environment along the coast of O'ahu. Further research into the influence of these physical processes on the biodiversity of the region will be encouraged. The project will utilize four-dimensional variational data assimilation within the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on similar issues and research. Information about the program can be found at http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/hioos/.
Minimum Qualifications include: Ph.D. or equivalent in physical oceanography, ocean engineering, or related field, ability to work well independently as part of a team, and strong communication skills both verbal and written. Preferred candidates will have experience with ROMS or other numerical models, strong mathematical and computational skills with background in physical processes, and are motivated to drive new developments in data assimilation within numerical modeling.
The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance and funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Electronic applications containing 1) curriculum vitae; (2) one-page statement of research interests; (3) contact information for 3 references to powellb@hawaii.edu. Email verification will be sent upon receipt of your application, please inquire if receipt is not received. For more information, please contact Dr. Brian Powell (powellb@hawaii.edu; 808-956-6724).
