Estuarine Circulation Modeling Research Associate and/or Post-Doctoral Researcher
The Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction (CMOP), a multi-institutional NSF Science and Technology Center hosted at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), seeks a Research Associate and/or Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the center’s multi-institutional modeling team. The primary responsibility will be to apply, and preferably advance, a comprehensive modeling system for baroclinic circulation in the Columbia River coastal margin. The geographic scope is the tidal-influenced Columbia River, from the river to the continental shelf. At the focus of the applications are the characteristics of circulation and physical habitat opportunity for salmon, both in the contemporary system and for diverse scenarios of modified operation of the basin and of large-scale climate change. The modeling system includes both operational and exploratory components, and serves as an essential infrastructure for diverse scientific, training and knowledge transfer initiatives.
Qualifications include a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in oceanography, hydrology, applied mathematics, or other relevant field, and prior experience in advanced applications of circulation models. Experience in unstructured-grid modeling, circulation model development and observation-based skill assessment of models is highly desirable.
More than one position may be hired contingent on available funding. This position is based at OHSU’s West Campus, in Beaverton, Oregon, working in the lab of Professor Antonio Baptista. The position will also work closely with our regional partners, such as Professor Yvette Spitz at Oregon State University, and other researchers or practitioners at universities and at state, federal and/or tribal agencies. Depending on qualifications and interest, opportunities might be available to contribute to the training of graduate students and the mentoring of undergraduate and high school interns.
