The Oceanographic Modeling and Observation Network (REMO) is a national initiative in operational oceanography established in 2008. In 2011, REMO became part of the GODAE Oceanview, a selected group of worldwide ocean forecasting systems. Our goal is to undertake research and technological development in physical oceanography and operational oceanography with focus on the South Atlantic Ocean and regions along the Brazilian coast using assimilative models and observational data.
Candidates must address the criteria outlined below:
Essential:
• A PhD in physical oceanography or related areas and a strong background in geophysical fluid dynamics and computer science.
• Experience with high-resolution numerical ocean models.
• Knowledge of programming languages (FORTRAN and/or C).
• Skill in analyzing numerical model outputs and verification statistics.
Desirable:
• Experience with the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS), preferably in clusters.
• Ability to process very large datasets in a variety of formats.
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl and/or Python and graphical display programs such as Matlab and Python.
Candidates should have oral and written proficiency in English and a strong desire to disseminate the results in conference talks and journal articles.
