Through funding from two grants from the Australian Research Council, we are seeking two outstanding early-career researchers for separate studies of coastal ocean processes occurring on the Australian North West Shelf. Applicants are welcome to apply for either or both positions.
Position #1. The appointee will pursue research on the inner ocean response to tropical cyclone forcing on Australia’s North West Shelf. The project will include both field studies and numerical modelling using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS), and will involve collaboration with industry partner Woodside Energy.
Position #2. The appointee will conduct research which contributes to a multidisciplinary project focused on the “Coupled physical and biogeochemical dynamics on the Australian North West Shelf”. The project will involve field studies to assess the dominant transport and mixing processes using instrument moorings, ocean gliders, and ship-based measurements, as well as the development of a coupled physical-biogeochemical numerical model for the region using ROMS. Additional support beyond the two-year appointment is possible subject to new funding. The research involves collaboration with the University of Tasmania and the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and the candidate will work closely with a Research Associate focused on the biological oceanography of the region based at University of Tasmania with A/Prof Peter Strutton.
