The Department of Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar to develop and explore data assimilation methods for ecosystem processes within the California Current System using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). The ecosystem model is concentration-based, resolving lower trophic levels including microbial populations. A weak constraint 4-dimensional variational (4D-Var) ocean data assimilation approach, recently developed within ROMS, will be used to constrain ecosystem state variables based on satellite and in-situ observations in order to better understand coupled physical and biological processes within the California Current System. The successful candidate will join a research team at UCSC that includes related modeling, field, and laboratory activities.
Complete instructions to apply can be obtained at http://apo.ucsc.edu/academic_employment ... egamer.pdf. Position is open until filled. For full consideration, applications must be received by September 1, 2010.
