Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospherics Sciences, North Carolina State University seeks to hire a research associate (postdoctoral) in Coastal Oceanography. The successful applicant will utilize nested, data assimilative models to explore the ocean circulation processes that influence the coastal environment and ecosystem dynamics. Minimum qualifications include: Ph.D. in physical oceanography, or closely related field; ability to work independently and as a part of a team, and good verbal and written communication skills. Candidates should have experience with ROMS or other community numerical ocean/atmosphere models, clear understanding of circulation processes, strong mathematical skills and computational knowledge of Linux systems, FORTRAN90/95, and other computer languages. Experiences with data assimilation techniques and/or biogeochemical models are preferred. The applicant is expected to prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, make presentations at scientific meetings, and attend project-related workshops. The initial appointment is for one year with a possible renewal pending satisfactory performance. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
