We are seeking a candidate for a postdoc contract in oceanography (physical oceanography, fluid dynamics, geophysics, earth science) with experience in numerical modeling and oceanographic data analysis at the Technical University of Cartagena - UPCT - (Spain).
The successful candidate will work on the study of coastal hydrodynamic processes, atmosphere/ocean interaction, waves, sediment transport and biogeochemistry to implement an operational model of the SW Mediterranean area of Region of Murcia (Spain) including the 175 km2 surface Mar Menor hypersaline coastal lagoon.
The successful candidates should have a background in physical oceanography and/or marine sciences with knowledge in: fluid dynamics; HPC computing; data analysis and visualization. He/she should have experience with ROMS although not strictly necessary.
Although the place of work is preferable at the UPCT, remote working is also possible. Ability to work in a highly cooperative but independent team is a requirement. Our research group is currently working on modeling oceanic and coastal processes, sound propagation and biogeochemistry and Harmful Algae Blooms with long experience in oceanographic instrumentation deployments at sea (time series of ADCPs, tide gauges, etc.), oceanographic surveys and underwater robotics.
Applicants can send a brief description research interest and an updated CV to Javier Gilabert (javier.gilabert@upct.es). Position is for one year (renewal for a second year subject to candidate’s performance) with salary in the range of 40-50.000 € depending on experience.
