Large deviation between history output and average output

Hi,

I am running ROMS at a semi-enclosed embayment with seasonal freshwater inflow. I requested the model to output both the historical and averaged results hourly. However, when I compare the historical salinity and averaged salinity of the surface layer at a grid close to the river inlet, it shows unreasonable deviation as shown in the figure below.

Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Are you sure you are comparing time series with the same time coordinate?

Hi Professor Wilkin,

I confirm that the time series I am comparing are of the same time coordinate. These are the outputs of the entire simulation. There is negligible freshwater inflow during the first three months as it is the dry season at my study site. That is why the historical salinity maintained at a high level, and also the reason that makes the sharp decline of the averaged salinity unrealistic.
