Dear All,
I am a new to the ROMS and hope somebody could answer my query. My project is on Greenlandic fjord dynamics and I need to consider the floating bodies (icebergs) in my simulations. On manual it is said that the model includes the sea ice applications. Does it mean that software includes the fresh water input from melting, runoff to the ambient water only or it also includes the the floating body, and possibly vertical rotation of such body can be re-created in some layers of ambient waters. Thank you.
Kind Regards!

floating body query
Re: floating body query
I'm afraid what we have is much simpler than what you are looking for. The sea ice is one layer considered to be above the surface of the water, providing heat and salt fluxes to the surface boundary, plus stresses. Bill Hibler has been pushing for sea ice models to be "embedded", in that the ice chunks are admitted to be displacing some water. We can argue that it doesn't much matter for sea ice on scales of hundreds of km, but your floating bergy bits are different beasts.

Re: floating body query
Dear Kate,
Just one more quick question related to my earlier query. Is there any approximate planned date when the ice model might possibly be included into ROMS? Just some guides please. Thanks.

Re: floating body query
The ice model has been in ROMS for years, just not in the trunk. Access to the ice branch is via email to robertson@marine.rutgers.edu (svn) or via github (git).
