We seek a research colleague who will join our coastal modeling and data assimilation group to work on variational data assimilation with nonlinear models of ocean circulation on physical scales ranging from the nearshore surf zone, to the ocean shelf and slope, and to the coastal transition zone. The research will involve application to the environmental sciences of advanced numerical methods for partial differential equations, nonlinear optimization, adjoint-based techniques, and numerical linear algebra.
Requires a Ph.D. or equivalent in applied mathematics, fluid mechanics, oceanography, atmospheric sciences or related field; demonstrated motivation for research; experience in scientific modeling using FORTRAN (preferably w/ experience in Matlab, Unix, and parallel computing); a good command of English; and ability to work as part of a team.
