There is an opening of the PhD position at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (IOR) in Split, Croatia (http://www.izor.hr). The position is funded by Croatian Science Foundation, on the ADIOS project (http://www.izor.hr/ADIOS). We are looking for a motivated young scientist in the field of geosciences (eventually mathematics or computer sciences) to work on the research of assessment of the long-term high-resolution atmosphere-ocean model simulation in the Adriatic Sea (AdriSC climate simulation, 1987-2017) that will be ready in summer 2019, with the following to-do list:
1. Validation of the oceanic component of the AdriSC simulation on available remote sensing and ocean data and providing new climate of the Adriatic, 2. Assessment of trends and variability of the thermohaline circulation, including their components (dense water formation, the Adriatic-Ionian Bimodal Oscillating System – BiOS), 3. Climate and process studies (upwelling and downwelling, internal waves and internal tides).
More about the AdriSC modelling suite can be found at http://www.izor.hr/adrisc.
The candidate will join the group being world leaders in meteotsunami research, while having strong background in ocean modelling, data analyses, climate studies, and the Mediterranean and the Adriatic oceanography.
The position will include the engagement in doctoral study of geophysics/oceanography at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, or similar.
Tentative starting date is 1 March 2019.
Duration of the position is 4 years.
Applications with CV and motivation letter should be send to Ivica Vilibic (vilibic@izor.hr), with cc to Clea Denamiel (cdenamie@izor.hr). For selected candidates, formal procedure (public call lasting for 30 days) will be initiated in December 2018.
