Question about Nudging Coefficients

#1 Unread post by leilanepassos »

Hi.

In ROMS we have 2 kinds of Nudging Coefficients. My questions are:

1)The coefficients in file.in TNUDG, ZNUDG, M2NUDG, M3NUDG, and OBCFAC. Are they corresponding just for nudging at the WEST/NORTH/EAST/SOUTH boundaries?

2)The coefficients in NUDNAME.nc file M2_NudgeCoef, M3_NudgeCoef, temp_NudgeCoef, salt_NudgeCoef, and tracer_NudgeCoef. Are they corresponding just for climatology nudging?

Thanks.

The only way to really know for sure is to look at the source code. Sometimes the answer is "it depends", such as the boundary nudging values coming from say TNUDG unless you also have climatology nudging in which case the boundary values come from the climatology values. Then there's nudging to surface salinity which also uses TNUDG. Maybe that's not quite what you want - we adjust the surface salinity TNUDG with a case-dependent factor.
