Description:
Reports to the Senior Professor of the Ocean Modeling Group of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University. Provides programming and end-user support services to the Ocean Modeling Group. Specific responsibilities include configuring and conducting computer simulations using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS); handling observational and simulated datasets, including their transfer, storage, and manipulation; and development, application, and documentation of pre- and post-processing software.
Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree in physical oceanography or a closely-related field (e.g., engineering, meteorology, physics) involving good quantitative/computational skills. Also requires working knowledge of FORTRAN 77/90 and C/C++; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; familiarity with high-level document and presentation preparation systems (e.g., LaTeX, Word, PowerPoint, etc.); prior experience with MATLAB; and the ability to work in a Windows or Unix operating system environment. Prior experience with hydrodynamic circulation models, the analysis of geophysical datasets, and/or data visualization tools (e.g., Vis5D), and a post-graduate degree are preferred.
