CoastGrid as grid generator

#1 Unread post by thomas.roc »

Greetings everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever used CoastGrid to generate grid files (i.e. *.nc) !?
I find CoastGrid interface pretty slick and straight forward and easy to use.

it is fairly simple to generate the *.dat grid files yet I miss one major thing:
how do you convert those files in a netcdf grid file useable by ROMS?

Is there an existing routine for that somewhere? Shall I bother making one up or rather switch to another grid generator (i.e. seagrid, pyroms, etc...)?

Any thoughts !?

I just looked through their simple example. I don't see that it tries to make the grid orthogonal, which is the kind of grid ROMS is expecting. Orthogonality is a pretty stiff constraint.

Seagrid will also make non-orthogonal grids unless you manage to get its mex files to compile. Good luck!
