Tidal forcing broken?

The recent IO updates appear to have broken a tidally-forced application of mine. The problem is in the reading of tidal data from the forcing file. The tidal data variables (tide_period, tide_Eamp, etc) end up uninitialised and there is no tidal forcing at the boundary. Or something like that. I am still looking into it and will post more info when I can.
