ROMS-SWAN Coupled System Users

#1 Unread post by jcwarner »

If you are using the ROMS-SWAN Coupled system, please respond to this post or send me an email
jcwarner@usgs.gov
and just say that you are using the system and ,if you could, just one sentence that says where/what you are doing. I am trying to get a compiled list of current investigators using the system.

thanks,
john

Dear John,

I am using ROMS-SWAN coupling model to study large scale circulation in Osaka bay, Japan. I'm also applying ROMS-SWAN coupling model to storm surge problem in Japan.

I am using ROMS-SWAN to study storm surge and wind setdown on Lake Erie. Wave radiation stress does not appear to make much difference. Is there a formulation for wave-dependent surface drag?

Hi, I used the ROMS+SWAN coupled system to study wave-tide interaction and sediment transport distribution affected by a wave farm. Also I use the COAWST system for similar purposes.
btw: is anyone using COAWST with wind fields for the Refined-case in SWAN? I have some FAQ.
Thanks very much.

John -

We are using ROMS-SWAN in several applications:

(1) looking at effects of waves on discharge plumes and sedimentation processes from small rivers.

(2) Processes in Delaware Bay

(3) Processes in the Delaware Inland Bay system, with future applications to long term evolution of fringing salt marshes.

I had forgotten this page existed. Sandro and I used it for the Bevano River inlet on the east coast of Italy.

John,

My company Numerics Warehouse Ltd. has and continues to use the coupled ROMS-SWAN system for a number of ocean energy related projects including :-

(1) Extreme storm simulations to evaluate the 3D current field at sub-sea turbines close to the French coast for a tidal turbine developer.
(2) Coupled ROMS-SWAN-Community-Sediment Transport model to investigate the effect of extreme storms on sand wave movement on the west coast of Ireland to assess the stability of offshore wind turbine foundations.
(3) To investigate the effect of storm surge and wave radiation stress in creating current jets in the vicinity of sub sea turbines in the Orkney Islands.

We are grateful that you have made this code available. Keep up the good work.

Regards,

Marcel Cure
