why kinetic energy raise up?

#1 Unread post by Hanq »

Dears,
In ROMS exported LOG file, what does it mean about the three "_ENRG"?
STEP Day HH:MM:SS KINETIC_ENRG POTEN_ENRG TOTAL_ENRG NET_VOLUME
C => (i,j,k) Cu Cv Cw Max Speed
I plot the 'KINETIC_ENRG' of my test, but it always raise up. Like this:
Image
The current, temperature, salinity become more different than the first year. Could anyone can help me to solve this problem?

In many papers, there are "volume averaged kinetic energy" and "surface averaged kinetic energy". What is the relationship between them and 'KINETIC_ENRG' in LOG file?
I am looking forward to receiving any reply, thanks very much!

Hi, everyone,

I also meet this problems, My climatology experiment's log shows that 'Max_Speed' and 'KINETIC_ENRG' are increasing (speed ~3.5m/s) in three years simulation. In fact, the observed current should not be that fast, I am worried if the experiment is in an unstable state, or the model just need time to spin up? do you have any solution for this problem?

sincerely,

Gilbert
