As far as I know, LTRANS is still a good approach for post-processing ROMS output to track dynamic particles.

Hi Mark and Bene, Unless things have changed, the NC_CONFIG macro is not very smart, and doesn't actually search for installed versions of NetCDF...it just assumes the netCDF files are in the location associated with the NC_CONFIG macro. Thus, if you have multiple netCDF installations, or have just ...

Answering my own question, with thanks to John Wilkin (who showed it to me) and John Warner (who found the key issue for bbl simulations: #undef splines ). You can use atmospheric pressure in ana_pair to impose a horizontal pressure gradient. Use it to make the dp/dx you want, recalling that in ...

Suspended sediments: nstp or nnew?
This question demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding of how ROMS steps tracers. We are developing a floc model that moves mass from one suspended-sediment tracer class to another. This is a zero-dimensional calculation, performed at every i,j,k location, and integrated over one baroclinic ...

I'd like to be able to simulate steady, uniform open-channel flow efficiently, and get the same results that 1DV models get for turbulence, stress, and velocity profiles when forced with a sloping sea surface. Small periodic domains (sed_toy, bio_toy) with body force or surface stresses don't ...

It is weird that putting the full path name in did not fix the problem. Update on this problem: another run, with DCRIT increased to 0.5 m and tiling switched runs a little longer, and blows up in a different spot (steep channel edge as water level is rising). The location is not close to a tiling boundary.

How to diagnose blow-ups with wetting/drying
I have been trying to solve a blow-up with wetting and drying. The bathymetry has terrible metrics, according to the output: Maximum grid stiffness ratios: rx0 = 1.960000E+02 (Beckmann and Haidvogel) rx1 = 1.466021E+04 (Haney) However, I don't think this is the problem. Passive tracers will work fine if all of the isotopes have the same initial age and are not decay products of other isotopes you are modeling. If that is the case, you can decay them all after the ROMS run during post processing.
