The position has an emphasis on fluid mechanics, oceanography, numerical modelling, and coupling to marine ecosystems.
Modeling work will involve both ROMS (regional scale) and BASILISK (idealized experiments for internal wave breaking).
The PhD student will furthermore get involved with field work ...

nonlinear cost function not calculated in PSAS
I have experienced that the Nonlinear cost function is not being calculated in a 4D-PSAS application when the VERIFICATION cpp is activated.
Hence the variables NL_iDataPenalty and NL_fDataPenalty are zero in the resulting ocean_mod.nc file.
I learned that VERIFICATION is only to be used for runs ...

Re: Writing to subsequent history files in ROMS 3.4
No, I didn't update to ROMS 3.5 because 3.4 was announced to be stable and 3.5 has gotten "major changes". However, I'll try that later on and will report if it helps.

Re: Writing to subsequent history files in ROMS 3.4
I use:
NDEFHIS=1440
and do not restart the model. This still works with ROMS 3.2. with no other changes than the ROMS version.
I updated the ocean.in file but not the makefile. could this be a problem?

Re: error while writing variable: ocean_time into his.nc
I guess this is the same problem as I got:
https://www.myroms.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2254
in my case id didn't occur because something was wrong with the variable ocean time, but something is wrong with the output file (it is not created, the netcdf output does therefore has a invalid ID ...

Writing to subsequent history files in ROMS 3.4
Using ROMS 3.4 (r550), I have the problem that the history output file is not getting initialized when I specify NDEFHS != 0 (writing the output to subsequent history files).
The error I get looks like this:
NETCDF_PUT_FVAR_1D - error while writing variable: ocean_time
in input file: ocean_his ...
