Ok. Thanks for the suggestion Kate. I'll look into the options for the shallow water model. And then to handle the tidal components, I can use NCL?

Thanks for your attention Kate. I've tried your suggestion regarding the timestep, making sure it complies with the CFL condition. And I've tried making it really small. Still, it ends up blowing up even at the first output timestep. I couldn't seem to trace where the upwelling forcing factors in ...

tidal forcing run on an enclosed bay

Hi, I'm a beginner to ROMS, and I'm trying to get to the point where I can run my own application. So far, I've gone as far as using seagrid to prepare a grid file, with landmask and bathymetry. My site is an enclosed bay, with closed boundaries on the north, east, and south, and with only a ...

Thanks for the reply and the helpful hints. I'm trying out both of your suggestions. For ncview, I'm using Ubuntu, so there are some issues with the X11 libraries. But the website you gave has hints for this. As for editmask, here's where I'm getting a bit confused. And searching for it has led to ...

seagrid output netcdf file

Hi, Just a quick question. I've been able to run seagrid with some success for my own application. I've let seagrid compute the landmask and bathymetry, and then saved it with all this information. I then ran seagrid2roms to convert into a netcdf file. Does this mean that I just need this one file ...

Setting up your own grid, bathymetry, and landmask

Hi, As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm a new ROMS user, and I've been helped much by your replies to them. I've been able to compile successfully, and have been able to run some test cases. Using mexcdf and snctools, I've also begun learning to extract data and visualize it. I'm at that point ...

Thanks for directing me to this. It was a big help. Hmmm, now I'm trying to run the test cases with actual netcdf file inputs. In particular, I'm trying to run the Weddell Sea and Adriatic Sea test cases. However, the input netcdf files are missing. Do these have to be downloaded elsewhere? But I'll ...

specifiying usage of input netcdf files

Hi, I'm new to ROMS and I'm still trying to find my way through the code. I had some trouble compiling initially, but thanks to help from these forums, I'm past that. I've also been able to run some of the test cases successfully. Now, I'm planning to run my own application. Now, if there were input ...

Thanks for the recode tip, I'll be trying that as it would come in handy for other things as well. Anyway, just wanted to let everybody know that I've checked ROMS out straight to our linux box and the compilation is successful, with none of the errors I started this topic with. So I guess that's ...

Thank you for all your replies. Yes, maybe the error really has to do with the copying from Windows to Linux. I'll try a checkout straight from linux, assuming we get to fix our server connections.

Hi Kate, Thanks for the reply. I've checked for the file 'sfmakedepend', and it's there in the ROMS/Bin directory. After running 'perl --version', it seems to be installed and the message I get is: This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi Copyright 1987-2006, Larry Wall There's one ...

problems running 'make'

Hi, I'm new to the ROMS model, and I've encountered a problem running 'make'. I'm trying to decipher the error message. When I run 'make', the output is: loric@ubuntu1://home/loric/ROMS$ make : No such file or directory makefile:230: INCLUDING FILE Compilers/make_macros.mk WHICH CONTAINS APPLICATION ...
