Non Hydrostatic Modeling workshop in Brest, France
We recently completed a non-hydrostatic version of ROMS. It is currently in a beta testing phase but will be publicly available this fall. In celebration of this fact we are organizing a workshop on the topic of small scale, non-hydrostatic ocean modeling in Brest, France, October 15-17, 2018. This ...

Re: How to generate refined grids?
Your fine and coarse grid topography may not match at the boundaries of the fine grid. If that is the case, you should use a merging function to ensure that they do. See also Mason et al., Ocean Modelling, 2010.

Re: Grid orientation with ROMSTOOLS
Julio,
I don't think that romstools can do this. Send me a mail and I'll help you out.

Re: Grid orientation with ROMSTOOLS
Something like this? This is obtained using a rotated Mercator projection. As a result the grid has the smallest possible ratio between maximum and minimum grid spacing (1.012 for this example).

Re: zeros in bathymetry
What do you mean with that? How do you assess whether you can or not?kate wrote: Also, for a modern ROMS vertical coordinate, we can get by with larger values of this parameter and frequently run with values of 0.4 or even greater.

Orthogonal grids and conservation laws
We were having a discussion about the orthogonality of ROMS grids and the effect of loss of such orthogonality on conservation properties of ROMS. To be more specific, we could not immediately agree on whether grids need to be discretely orthogonal or merely up to discretization errors. Does anyone ...
