Typo in ROMS/Nonlinear/lmd_vmix.F

I think there's a typo/bug in the new code added for the lateral boundary conditions for the vertical mixing coefficients in lmd_vmix.F. On the eastern edge of a tile: 574 IF (DOMAIN(ng)%Eastern_Edge(tile)) THEN 575 DO j=Jstr,Jend 576 DO itrc=1,NAT 577 Akt(Iend-1,j,k,itrc)=Akt(Iend,j,k,itrc) 578 END ...

Re: Surface geostrophic velocity issue

I really like John's sanity check, so I did the same thing with what I use to plot vectors. Each vector pair in the image is either [1,0] or [0,1] along the model xi- and eta- axes, rotated using the model "angle" variable, and the vector tails start at the rho-point. This is using every fourth ...

Re: Surface geostrophic velocity issue

Yeah, I don't get why the angle between the red and green vectors isn't 90 degrees if the grid looks pretty orthogonal and the centers are at close to right angles on the screen (at least it looks that way on my screen). If the ROMS "angle" was off, I could see why the arrows might not line up with ...

Re: Surface geostrophic velocity issue

Luckily, I pre-interpolate and rotate the winds and do not use the automatic regridding option in ROMS. Still strange though: I don't use MATLAB to make vector plots, so I haven't used quivergrd (or quiver) at any latitude. I have made plenty of vector plots of model velocity fields at high ...

Re: Surface geostrophic velocity issue

Hi John, This grid is based on an earlier grid made at a coarser resolution using the old Fortran gridpak package (so the grid angle would have come from "sphere"). I didn't make the finer resolution grid, so I don't know how the grid angle was changed, but I'm guessing some simple interpolation ...

Re: ICESHELF ROMS 3.7, blow up on huge zeta after few time s

Hi Stefan, #ifdef ICESHELF doesn't currently work in the main ROMS trunk. The biggest issue is that the water layer depths correctly account for the presence of ice shelves in set_depth.F, but the total water depth in step2d_LF_AM3.h does not (look at how Drhs is defined in step2d_LF_AM3.h in the ...

Re: Spurious supercooling in ROMS-CICE simulation

Hi Kaitlin,

For what it's worth, I use the same tracer advection schemes as Kate (TS_U3HADVECTION, TS_C4VADVECTION) for my circum-Antarctic ROMS model with Budgell ice and I don't seem to have any issues with the advection scheme making the ice go away everywhere (except the Ross).

Re: Blowing-up problem: Bulk_fluxes

Are you sure your rain fall units are correct? You list rain fall as kg m2/s, but ROMS wants rain as kg m-2 s-1 (unless you have some conversion in varinfo.dat as Kate pointed out). If I'm reading your time history plot correctly, you have rain fall rates at times on the order of 1 kg m2/s. If ROMS ...

Re: Sea Ice Question (wind-water momentum transfer?)

The version of the sea ice code that I have did have a bug in the wind/open water momentum transfer, but only if you're using BULK_FLUX to calculate the wind stress for the open water from wind speed. In ice_vbc.F, sustr_aw and svstr_aw are assumed to be in N/m^2 and are divided by rho0 to get to ...

Station output for u and v

I just discovered the same problem with the station output for u and v being shifted (w/ STATIONS_CGRID undefined), but I think the problem is only for the 3d fields and the fix is pretty simple. Take a look at where interpolation is done for u-points in extract_sta.F (version 2.2, don't know if ...

Bug in obc_volcons

Hernan, I've got some more stuff on OBC_VOLCONS, including (I think) a real bug this time. To refresh your memory, I've attached the message I sent last time where all I did was increase the precision in some of the volume conservation calculations. I was using the beta version 2d (and not the ...
